ARCH 1100 Archaeology in the Age of Augustus

Rome's first Emperor, Gaius Octavian Augustus, ruled an empire stretching from Spain to Syria, from Britain to Egypt. Students will explore the social, artistic, and political successes and failures of this "golden age" of Rome's past. The course will assess a broad range of topics -- such as the creation of empire, art as propaganda, and the role of women -- within the context of Augustan ideology and history. TTh 10:30-11:50.
