Seven of our couse sessions will be devoted to working with the Day collection of Islamic artifacts. During these sessions we will examine a number of topics related to the use of actual artifacts as the essential data of archaeological investigations.

As part of the course you will get to touch, classify, probe, and hopefully not break (though many pieces are themselves fragments) the varies items in this collection.

The first 15 minutes of the lab will be a brief discussion of the day's topic or activity. Some labs will have required readings that will be part of the discussion and illustrated using the collection. Other lab sessions will be more hands on in which individuals or small groups will work with a particular sample.
