Social life/cultural biography of things

Please write a 3-5 page paper on the social life/cultural biography of an object. This can be an archaeological artifact, a contemporary object, a museum piece, an ethnographic artifact, a work of art etc. You will be expected to approach the artifact from a biographical standpoint in the light of this week's readings, highlighting its social/cuiltural/material processes of transformation. The paper should involve some library research, reading at least 2-3 scholarly articles on the object of your choice, its social-historical context etc. Note that your final research paper project may develop from this small paper.

Due: Monday after spring break (April 2nd). To be posted on the wiki (here below) and presented in hard copy to Omur (double spaced 12-font) with proper listing of bibliography. Please use author/date style as in the Weekly Schedule page.
