From Porto one travels east in the direction of Vila Real. Marco de Canaveses is about halfway and south of the IP4 highway. South of Marco is the village of Freixo, where the site of Tongobriga is located. It is a few kilometers north of the confluence of the rivers Douro and Tâmega.
