Brown University (Providence, R.I.) - PhD candidate (qualifying/comprehensive examinations passed, January 2004; dissertation defense passed, 11 April 2007), Artemis A.W. & Martha Sharp Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World. Dissertation topic: The Hellenistic and Roman Pottery of Field I (The Village) at ‘Iraq al-Amir, Jordan: A Typological Study.

FIELDWORK


Sept. 2005 – Jan. 2006

ACOR/CAORC Fellowship, American Center of Oriental Research, Amman, Jordan: aresearch fellowship devoted to study of the Hellenistic and Roman pottery from the 1961-62 Field I excavations at the site of ‘Iraq al-Amir, Jordan, including the analysis of artifacts, a topographical study of the site, collection of clay deposits, and an ethnoarchaeological investigation of the modern ceramic workshop at ‘Iraq al-Amir.

Summer 2005

Trench Supervisor, Petra Great Temple Project, Petra, Jordan: responsible for supervision of two trenches, Special Project 121 and Special Project 125, in addition to duties involving surveying, recording, cataloguing, data entry, report writing, etc. Excavation sponsored by Brown University and National Endowment for the Humanities.

Summer 1999

Assistant Area Supervisor, Tell el-Far’ah (South), Israel: responsible for supervision of 6 squares in Area A of Tell el-Far’ah (South), recording, cataloguing, data entry, and top-plan/section drawings. Excavation jointly sponsored by Trinity College, Claremont Graduate University, Pomona College, and Ben Gurion University.

Summer 1998

Volunteer, Combined Caesarea Expeditions, Caesarea Maritima, Israel: responsible for excavation in Trench 1 of Area LL, recording, and top-plan/section drawing. Excavation jointly sponsored by The University of Maryland, Haifa University, University of Oklahoma, and Trinity College.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY


July – December 2006

Consultant, Petra Database Project, SHAPE Lab, Brown University, Providence R.I.: archaeological consultant for Petra Great Temple web database project (supervisor, Dr. David C. Cooper); duties included modification & preparation of 3D images of artifacts from the Petra Great Temple, conversion of digital video, and organizing database for web presentation.

Fall 2002 – Spring 2003

Teaching Assistant, Brown University, Providence R.I.: responsible for assisting Dr. R. Ross Holloway at the Center for Old World Archaeology and Art, Brown University (Fall 2002). Duties included teaching during field trips to the Rhode Island School of Design and the Brown Campus, grading examinations, and preparing classes. Also responsible for co-teaching an independent undergraduate seminar, “Pottery in Archaeology” (Spring 2003).

Fall 2001 – Spring 2002

Departmental Proctor, Brown University, Providence R.I.: responsible for updating and maintaining COWAA library (including book and offprint databases), posting important notices, running departmental errands, etc. Supervisor: Beth Googins, Departmental Administrator, Center for Old World Archaeology and Art at Brown University.

Fall 1999 – Spring 2001

Teaching Assistant, University of Florida, Gainesville F.L.: responsible for teaching Introductory Latin classes (Latin Elements 1120 and 1121) of 30+ students (including preparing class lectures and writing syllabi, class handouts, examinations, etc.). Teaching assistant duties also included proctoring and grading examinations for professors teaching other classes.
